1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files a site stores on your device. Related technologies include local storage and session storage, which work the same way for our purposes. This policy covers all of them.
2. What we set, and why
Strictly necessary
- Authentication session. When you sign in with a magic link our auth provider stores a session token in browser storage so you stay signed in. Removing it signs you out. We cannot run accounts and comments without this.
Functional
- Saved articles, search history, and small UI preferences. Stored in your browser's local storage on your device, not sent to our servers.
Analytics
- Google Analytics 4. We use Google Analytics to measure page views, sessions, traffic sources, and which articles people read, so we can improve the site. Google sets cookies (typically
_gaand_ga_*) and processes data on our behalf. IP addresses are anonymized where the setting is available, and we do not enable Google Signals, ad personalization, or cross-site advertising features. See Google's policy on how it uses data from sites that use its services. You can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to opt out across all sites.
What we do not set
- No advertising cookies.
- No cross-site tracking pixels.
- No social-network like buttons that auto-load tracking.
3. Third parties
When you visit pages that embed third-party media (for example, a YouTube clip or an image from a third-party source) that provider may set its own cookies. We do not control those. If you click through to a network site such as datingpartners.com, that site has its own policy.
4. How to control cookies
- Use your browser settings to block or delete cookies and clear local storage. Each browser is slightly different and the help center for your browser is the best source.
- If you block strictly necessary cookies, sign-in and comments will not work.
- You can sign out at any time, which clears your session.
5. Consent banner
Because we use only strictly necessary cookies and first-party analytics, we currently do not display a consent banner. If we ever add cookies that legally require consent under GDPR, UK GDPR, or local equivalents, we will add a banner that lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies. We will not load those cookies before you choose.
6. Do Not Track
We do not modify behavior based on Do Not Track signals because there is no industry standard. Our analytics are first-party and we do not run cross-site advertising trackers.
7. Changes
We will update this policy when our cookie use changes. The Last updated date at the top reflects the current version. Questions: hello@highintentmedia.com.
